Job Description
The Data Head for the Technology + Innovation Lab will be a deep Technical Specialist that has a deep understanding of big data and that also leads a team of data scientists in building and enabling big data analytics solutions for the Enbridge Technology + Innovation Lab, providing the basis for critical business decision-making through data-driven products. Works with and alongside the Digital team and the business users to continuously collect insight and to enable the Enbridge Technology + Innovation Lab to deliver valuable solutions. Conveys highly technical messages to cross-functional groups around how to best deliver business value through data architecture, data science, and data engineering. Coaches, mentors, and motivates/inspires the team of data scientists for the entire Lab.
Who you are:
Domain expertise
Experience leading a team of Data Scientists
Minimum of 7 years of experience in the data science/analytics field
Understanding of high-performance algorithms and R statistical software
Experience in industry data science (e.g., machine learning, predictive maintenance) preferred
Capability to architect highly scalable distributed systems, using different open source tools
Demonstrated experience with agile or other rapid development methods
Demonstrated experience with object-oriented design, coding, and testing patterns as well as experience in engineering software platforms and large-scale data
Expert knowledge of data modeling and understanding of different data structures
Experience using big data batch and streaming tools

Demonstrated ability to facilitate and lead others, and to work with minimal direction, with the proven ability to coordinate complex activities
Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
Experience in developing presentations and communications to be shared with internal and external stakeholders
Able to build a sense of trust and rapport that creates a comfortable & effective workplace

Education
Master’s or Ph.D. Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
What you’ll do:
Leverage cutting-edge data science expertise to help shape Lab strategy and operations to drive large-scale business impact across a broad scope of the business in a complex environment
Directs a large team of Data Scientists across multiple product teams to design, develop, and implement end-to-end machine learning production pipelines (data exploration, sampling, training data generation, feature engineering, model building, and performance evaluation)
Makes cross-Lab recommendations for practices that ensure data pipelines are scalable, repeatable, and secure, and can serve multiple users within the company
Makes cross- Lab recommendations for practices that enable big data and batch/real-time analytical solutions that leverage emerging technologies
Oversees a team of data scientists translating complex functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture, design, and high-performing software
Codes, tests, and documents new or modified data systems to create robust and scalable applications for data analytics for the whole Lab and broader Enbridge
Implements security and recovery tools and techniques as required
Works with Data Scientists and developers to make sure that all data solutions are consistent
Ensures all automated processes preserve data integrity by managing the alignment of data availability and integration processes
Collaborates with Data Scientists to develop standards and processes for integration projects and initiatives
Help teams think about data-driven opportunities to drive business value and significant allocation of resources toward delivering it.
