Your Opportunity
Stantec’s Calgary Water team is seeking a charismatic, self-motivated Engineer-in-Training to join our group and help support and grow our Water business in Alberta. As an Engineer-in-Training with our Water team, you will work with close guidance and supervision on tasks and smaller projects,
And as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a senior engineer. The role will focus on municipal water and wastewater treatment projects, but may also include pump station and industrial water projects.
The projects include feasibility studies, conceptual designs, preliminary designs, and detailed designs of water and wastewater management and treatment (recycle/reuse, pump stations, biological/physical and chemical treatment processes).
Your Key Responsibilities
Undertake municipal or industrial water and wastewater treatment system and pump station planning and design.
Prepare written technical reports, including design reports and technical memoranda to summarize calculations, economic analyses, and design bases.
Prepare conceptual and detailed design drawings, calculations, construction specifications, tender documents, applications for approvals, and other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned under the supervision of a senior engineer.
Prepare presentations for clients and communicate design and task progress with senior engineers and project managers.
Conduct chemical or process simulation modeling as required
Perform field work related to site investigations in support of design work and may include pilot and/or construction-related activities.
Meet with clients, regulators and officials, public, and contractors to review project needs and coordinate field conditions.
Communicate and coordinate with multiple internal disciplines, CAD technicians, engineers, and project managers related to task activities.
Deliver individual project tasks following project schedule and budget.
Qualifications & Skills
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of water and wastewater treatment engineering design (industrial and/or municipal) including process drawings and calculations, water quality (including chemical, physical, and biological parameters), and equipment selection.
Experience with chemical and process simulation modeling is considered an asset (hydraulic modeling, etc.)
Completion of a Master’s Degree with a focus on Water/Wastewater Treatment is considered an asset. Must have a bachelor’s in Environmental, Civil, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering field with a strong interest in water/wastewater projects and be a registered APEGA Engineer-in-Training, or ability to obtain within six months.
Relevant work experience in water/wastewater treatment projects is an asset.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and some Access and Project.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking experience.
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Plant3D, and/or Revit software would be considered an asset.
Familiar with Adobe or Bluebeam software.
Familiarity with Engineering design software BioWin ™ would be considered an asset.

Experience
Minimum of 0-8 years of experience in engineering analysis and design of water and/or wastewater systems.
Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
